Here in Canada, just off the West Coast, on Salt Spring Island, there's a legal currency created by Islanders. It is redeemable only on Salt Spring, and it is actually backed by gold. Since 2001, Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, with a population of about 10,000, has issued its own alternative currency. It's good lookin' cash!
